Westside Waldorf School (WWS) is seeking a Director of Advancement to provide leadership, vision, and management to support the growth and development of the school’s resource base through philanthropy. S/he reports directly to the Finance/Development Committees and to the Board of Trustees. The Director of Advancement is a member of the administration team and works closely with staff (i.e., Administrative Chair, Business Manager), the Board of Trustees, and other key leaders to support the strategic planning for the school as it relates to fundraising. S/he defines funding opportunities that match WWS’ institutional priorities and strategically engages individuals to inspire and deepen their support. Ideal candidate possesses familiarity with or willingness to learn about Waldorf education.
• Develop an annual operating plan for advancement including Annual Giving, Capital Campaign, other special campaigns and events.
• Implement effective strategies to achieve revenue goals and engagement targets.
• Direct involvement and oversight of Annual Giving, development events, and capital campaign.
• Lead all aspects of the gift cycle for major donors:

o Identify, research and prioritize pool of prospective and active donors
o Develop appropriate cultivation strategies tailored specifically to each individual donor
o Engage volunteer leadership to facilitate the successful cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of
major gifts
o Maintain strong relationships with all donors, nurture and enhance relationships to serve the donor
and the school.

• Establish an outreach program to alumnae and alumnae families, creating a database directory and actively cultivating alumnae involvement and support.
• Identify institutional funders with a commitment to progressive education.
• Coordinate the fundraising efforts of the all stakeholders to achieve fundraising goals, including direct solicitation of donor base.
• Effectively communicate development opportunities and integrate messaging in WWS publications: case for support, newsletters, the annual report, digital communications, etc.
• Oversee the management of the constituent database, prospect assignment and prospect management to ensure effectiveness across giving platforms.
• Serve as an ambassador for WWS through interactions with donors and prospects.
• Promote a culture of philanthropy at all levels of the organization.
• Represent WWS at various events and meetings, including the Development and Administrative Network (DANA) of AWSNA
• Maintain regular, consistent, and transparent progress reports to key stakeholders.
• Manage, mentor, and evaluate the advancement team, which can include volunteers.
• Perform general management responsibilities, including annual plans, budgets, monthly reports to the Board of Trustees.
• Maintain business systems to ensure effective and efficient operation of the organization.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Board of Trustees.
• Effectively communicate development opportunities and integrate messaging in WWS publications:
case for support, newsletters, the annual report, digital communications, etc.

A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree is required. The ideal candidate has been successfully managing and growing the advancement/development programs at a private school or a non profit organization of similar or larger budget size. The candidate has a minimum of three- five years of successful development experience in the non profit sector preferably with in private K-8 education, Youth and Family serving agencies and/or Early Childhood and Youth Development organizations. Familiarity with the regional philanthropic landscape is highly sought after.
